Almost 14 to 15 single screen theatres across the city of Kolkata and some districts of Bengal have decided to reopen with Sushant Singh Rajput’s films. The Central Government recently allowed re-opening of cinema halls from October 15 with 50% occupancy. And Bengal’s exhibitors took the chance to screen Sushant Singh Rajput’s films during the festive season of Durga Puja in the state when there’s no other big release to stare at.
The single screen theatres will for the starters screen Sushant’s hit film Kedarnath (2018). As per statement given to PTI, if the response to the movie is good, his other films such as Chhichhore (2019), Sonchiriya (2019), MS Dhoni : An Untold Story (2016), will also be released.
Shri Venkatesh Films, who were the original Bengal distributors of his films MS Dhoni and Chhichhore are reportedly in talks about re-releasing these two films of Sushant in Bengal.
Also the New Empire Theatre, located in the Dharmatala region of Kolkata, is planning to re-start their theatre with the screening of Sushant’s last film Dil Bechara. The film had released on OTT platform of Disney+ Hotstar post his demise on July 2020 and received a massive response from the viewers.
The Eastern India Motion Pictures Association considers Sushant Singh Rajput as the ‘safest bet’ right now during the pandemic situation while reopening the cinema halls, as told to PTI.
This month being a festive month in the state of West Bengal, may receive good gatherings at the theatres too. A lot of people despite the pandemic are going out to shop and prepare for the biggest festival of the state. In general, under normal circumstances, Bengal witnesses special Durga Puja releases every year. This year, in absence of that and owing to the emotions for Sushant Singh Rajput among general public, the single exhibitors may witness a good queue of viewers outside the ticket counter.
