Ever wonder how Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol or Katrina Kaif felt the moment when they were being smothered with tomatoes in Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara? Or How the Spainards feel every year as they celebrate the great Tomatina festival? Well if you’re in Brooklyn this weekend, you’re in luck. Brunol’s La Tomatina Festival is visiting the streets of Brooklyn New York onSaturday July 20th 2013 in the form of America’s Great Tomato Battle.
This weekend thousands of people will be hurling tons of overripe tomatoes at each other, all while listening to some of their favorite bands and drinking ice cold beer to beat the heat at the Aviator Sports complex at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. Clint Nelsen and Max Kraner founded Tomato Battle, and they plan to spread the joy of getting messy across the country as a tribute to tomato season. Tickets for this event can be obtained for $50, yes people are paying to get messy. For those looking to save a few bucks, LivingSocial.com is selling discounted tickets for the event for a limited time. Over 2,000 participants have bought cheaper tickets from LivingSocial already.
For those willing to participate in the event, it is recommended that you wear old clothing, as these stains are hard to remove. Also do not forget to bring with you a form of eye protectant such as goggles or sunglasses to avoid getting acidic tomato juice into your eyes. Please remember to read all rules and regulations carefully and enjoy the battle.
For those concerned that the festival promotes waste of food, no need to worry. These tomatoes are far too ripe (but not rotten) for human consumption. Enjoy painting the city red.
