Black eyeliner is a must have in every woman’s makeup bag. The desi look is almost incomplete without black eyeliner and it looks great with western wear as well. It’s perfect for a smoky eye, but can be put on lightly for a day look. Today I’m going to review a few black pencil eyeliners. For people who are new to eye makeup, a pencil is a great way to learn to balance your hand and achieve the look you desire as you more control with a pencil than a liquid liner.
*Michelle Phan’s EM Cosmetics Waterliner in Black Night $20*
Pros: This eyeliner comes in 12 shades. It glides on smoothly and is pigmented. It lasts a good 4 to 5 hours. It comes with a built in smudge tip and sharpener. It is also a retractable pencil.
Cons: It was named the waterliner because it was a liner for one’s waterline; however, it takes some time for the color to actually appear on the waterline. I had to run the pencil back and forth before the color came out. It is priced higher than liners that have performed better than it.
*Sephora’s Jumbo Liner 12 Hour Wear in Black (Waterproof) $14*
Pros: This eyeliner doubles as an eye shadow as well. They come in 28 different shades. It glides on very smoothly and has a very creamy texture. It is actually long lasting. There’s minimal touch up required. The colors are very pigmented and the black comes in two shades; a regular black and sparkly black.
Cons: It ends up smudging towards the corner of your eyes. The fact that it is a jumbo liner, you cannot create thin lines with it.
*Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal (Waterproof) $5-8*
Pros: It comes in 10 different shades. It’s very easy to apply and glides on quite smoothly. It has a nice creamy texture. It has a high pigmentation.
Cons: It smudges easily. It disappears from the waterline after a couple of hours.
*Clinique Quickliner For Eyes Intense in Intense Black $16*
Pros: It comes in 13 different shades. This glides on smoothly and has a built in smudge tip. It is creamy and has a deep pigmentation. It gives a tug free application.
Cons: It isn’t long lasting. It is supposed to be a retractable liner, however, if you twist too much of the product out, it does not retract. This product is also pricey compared to others that have performed better.
*Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Market $36*
Pros: This comes in a set with 5 other eyeliners. This is a very grayish black. The pigmentation is good with one stroke, but it can built up for a darker black shade. It lasts 7 to 8 hours without smudging. It glides on smoothly.
Cons: It is a limited edition set so won’t be around for too long. This liner requires a lot of build up before it can reach a nice deep black because of the grayish undertones.
*Sephora’s Smoky Kohl (Waterproof) $3*
Pros: This liner is perfect for creating the smoky look as it smudges easily. It glides on smoothly. The pigmentation is good.
Cons: It smears slightly and it doesn’t last too long. It needs to be set with eye shadow to get any good wear out of it.
*Rimmel’s Exaggerate Auto Eye Definer (Waterproof) $5.99*
Pros: This eyeliner is available in 6 different shades. It glides on extremely smoothly. It stays on pretty much all day with minimal touch up. I would definitely recommend it for anyone with sensitive eyes because this one does not irritate at all. It has a built in smudge tip and sharpener. The liner is soft so it doesn’t tug on your waterline. The tip is fine enough to get a nice thin line.
Cons: It smudges on oily skin, but if you have dry skin then you’re good to go. It takes longer to set on your eyelid or waterline than most other eyeliners so you need to give it time.
My favorite go to eyeliner is Rimmel’s Exaggerate. What’s yours? Let us know in the comment section and stay tuned to Fuze for more reviews!
