Star Plus and Sphere Origins’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon – Ek Bar Phir provides the bittersweet taste of life through the lead protagonists’ eyes. This past week marked extreme points of love and hate that left a stamp on the viewers’ heart.
They say the spontaneous reactions truly bring a true person’s personality in the time of need. Shlok (Avinash Sachdev) and Aastha’s (Shrenu Parikh) hate has crossed boundaries with intensity, passion and commendable faith towards each another. Their hate needs no external person, nor does Shlok’s possessiveness allow his own family to take that right away from him.
But last week, an opposite form of emotion, purely named as ‘love’ took over Shlok and his caring nature knew no heights. The man who purely hated his wife, climbed stairs of a holy symbolic temple post a snake bite that left his wife fighting for her life. He lifted her and carried her without an ounce of pain, without a drop of water while his eyes only laid on his wounded wife.
Surely the scene reminds us of the Bollywood age of when leads were bitten by snakes and the hero would take his beloved, searching for a cure. A similar film of the starring Sridevi as the nagin (snake) within Nagina, as she avenges the death of her beloved as snake or even the recent Chennai Express had a similar scene where the hero (Shahrukh Khan) was asked to carry the heroine (Deepika Padukone) through hundreds of stairs as a ritual that one follows right after marriage. Although in case of Chennai Express, no serious topic such as ‘snake bite’ was involved.
Sarcasm apart, the pure unintentional love depicted by Shlok would have never overshadowed his hatred for Aastha, if this had not happened. The week’s first few episodes were god given for the loyal viewers of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon – Ek Baar Phir who may have jumped in joy as the pandit gave blessings of togetherness to this young couple.
However fairytale love stories always have a bumpy ride towards victory. Niranjan (Manish Wadhwa) and Anjali Agnihotri (Geetanjali Tikekar), the barriers of this epic story have provided the ‘masala‘ and riveting, brutal and abusive depth of nature, not commonly seen on television.
Dancing to calm but destructive nature, Anjali Agnithori is seen forcing her parents out of an old age home, despite her eyes conveying her pain of rudeness towards her parents. Her actions do not stop here! She goes beyond, with her husband’s silent request to Aastha’s house.
Anjali was shown with Aastha as she gave her an ultimatum. There, her words and eyes totally contradict each other. Ripping apart her past and Aastha’s present, Anjali makes Aastha promise that she will never look back at her family and will never face them in any circumstance.
Surely Aastha and Anjali are like the same rod, one cold while the other hot. One is the young blood, while the other is the wise elder. However both women have faced the same within their lives. Surely the writers and story tellers have given a glimpse of what Aastha has faced now, was something Anjali had faced years ago while being the new bahu.
Anjali shown as rude, heartless woman and distant mother is not the true personality of this rooted character within Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon – Ek Bar Phir. She is so immensely scared, pressurized and abused by ‘pati parmeshwar‘ that her life of retaliation and change has been buried over time.
Perhaps, this coming week the avid viewers will get to witness Aastha and Anjali’s separate but painful bonding of the past and future as they collide with massive force of emotional atyachaar by Niranjan’s unsaid forceful actions. As the week passes, we hope Shlok’s blind faith in his father does unfold slowly leaving his caring nature to reveal to his unaware beloved Aastha.
