Excerpts.

What was the first thought that crossed your mind when you learned that you would be playing a ghost in Ek Deewaana Tha?

I liked the whole idea actually. The story is different from what I have done before and I thought, I would get to play a character that no one has played on television before.

What about Shiv attracted you the most?

The fact that he is not driven by revenge. Often ghosts want to take their revenge and that’s their only motive but with Shiv, that’s not the case. Shiv doesn’t cares about what happened to him, all he cares about is Sharanya and keeping her safe.

Do you believe in ghosts?

No, I don’t believe in them.

Which is your favourite horror movie?

The Conjuring.

Do you always wanted to be an actor?

No, not always. I really enjoyed acting since school days. I did some stuff in college as well but at that time, it was never like, I want to do acting for the rest of my life.

If not an actor, you would have been in which profession?

If not an actor, I would have been a rocket scientist. I really wanted to be a rocket scientist. Then, there was a time when I played basket ball for a living and that was very strong and long phase that lasted for a while.

Any character from a novel or a movie that you would like to play?

There are so many characters and there are so many good stories that have been told. Honestly, I cannot really pick one.

Do you read?

Yes, I used to read all the time when I was not shooting. Once the show starts and shooting begins, I don’t get the time to read. I’m not the kind of reader who would read ten chapters and leave the rest to read whenever time allows. I like to finish the book in a go.

Which is your favourite novel?

My all time favourites’ would be the Game of Thrones series and Harry Potter series.

Name any two similarities between you and Shiv?

(Laughs) I don’t really know.. (Laughs) Okay, one would be, like if I’m not open to a person and like them, I would just act like I don’t like them. Honestly, there’s a bit of me in every character I play but I cannot really name the characteristics.

Who is your inspiration as an actor?

I think, whenever I see a fantastic performance, it’s an inspiration for me to explore myself. I feel, you need to have many inspirations because if you have just one, you somewhere start copying them and I don’t want to do that. So, I have quite a few inspirations. It’s not a certain actor. Like, if I see a great movie or even a scene, I get inspired. The actors from the past have inspired me, then I grew up watching Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, then there’s Ranbir and Ranveer who are equally superb actors. Every time, I see one of them giving a fantastic performance, I feel inspired.

Who is your favourite actor in Bollywood?

Currently, I have two favourites’, Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor.

Who is your favourite actress in Bollywood?

Again, I have two favourites’, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt.

Who is your favourite actor or actress on television?

I don’t really get the time to watch television. Sometimes, I don’t even get the time to watch my own show so, I don’t really know. Okay, from what I have seen, I think Vikram and Donal are my favourites on television. Both of them are really good actors.

How is the experience of working with Prateek Sharma?

Prateek is great and quite interactive, which I’m very happy about because sometimes you know the writers are really strict with the scenes which I totally understand because it’s their story after all and their money which they are investing, but Prateek has been very open about telling us where the track is going, very open in receiving the ideas if any of us suggests.

If any of us have any question regarding something, we message him and he immediately replies or calls. Honestly, he has been a very good friend to us. Sometimes, it’s been a challenge to play Shiv’s character because you know, not speaking for like three months, not being there in the show as much and I think, it would not have happened if Prateek would have not been there encouraging me and telling me that it’s all a part of a big plan.

It’s been wonderful working with him, he is a great producer and if you will ask anyone on the sets, everyone has only good things to say about him. I’m glad that I get to work with him at a professional level and as a friend.

Message to your fans?

Thank you so much for loving me, for always supporting me and for always being there. Thank you for all your patience with Ek Deewaana Tha, when I didn’t have so much screen time or the dialogues.

You guys waited patiently and kept encouraging me. Thankfully, you guys are loving the flashback scenes and I’m really glad about it.

I’m really happy that I’m able to make you guys happy with whatever work I’m doing. Thank you for being with me on this journey.

Stay tuned to Fuze for more buzz!
