I would make some honest confessions in this piece. Whatever you are going to read below solely is written by me as a normal but loyal viewer of Ishqbaaz. Kindly do not judge this as a critical or appreciative piece. It’s more of an observational story probably.
For the past few weeks, I had been missing Shivaay. I watched Ishqbaaz everyday hoping to get a glimpse of Shivaay, Anika, Om, Gauri, Bhavya – People whom I thought I knew.
But all of them appeared as strangers. Something was amiss. Certain things didn’t connect. They didn’t act as they should have – Shivaay didn’t look like the hero I knew. Ishqbaaz didn’t look like the show I watched.
And then on Friday’s precap something happened…..this ‘something’ happened after a long time – Shivaay Singh Oberoi raised his hands high in the air with power in his voice, might in his eyes and somehow I felt finally I got what I had been missing.
We got out hero back! We got our faith in our hero back – The faith that Shivaay will always set everything right. Somehow, this man’s presence on screen doesn’t only mean the mere presence of the main man on screen but our sub-conscious mind keeps peeking in to tell us that this man symbolizes power, strength, force and faith.
1 and a half years ago, when I had seen and had started to know him, I sincerely didn’t like him. There had been times wherein the sole reason for me to not watch Ishqbaaz was this man and his never ending arrogance.
And then he married his own wedding planner forcefully, threatening to murder her brother if she didn’t agree – Guess he knew how much of a weakness brothers can be and he used that as a weapon to break her. Why? All for some stupid reason of protecting his ‘Naam Khoon Khaandaan’.
I took more dislike towards him and had actually stopped watching the show. Being a woman, I felt extremely humiliating to watch an MCP kind of a guy stamping the honour of a girl for the sake of his hollow and shallow family name.
Then something weird happened – This guy promised to cook chowmein with ghee for little Saahil and made me smile for the first time.
Then something weirder happened – This guy took a bullet for his wife whom he still had problem in addressing as his wife.
And then the weirdest of weird things happened – He cried for her. Wounded, injured and vulnerable, he cried for her while holding her hand in the hospital murmuring ‘kuch achcha nahi lag raha hai‘ just like a child.
And my dislike towards the guy decreased for the first time that day. If my memory isn’t defying me, then probably that was the first episode of Ishqbaaz, for which I had written.
Nevertheless, he still wasn’t my favourite. I still believed he invited all the troubles in the world, forget about believing in the ‘Shivaay Sab Thik Kar Dega’ theory………contd.
