Television – Tying the Knot



Falling in love is easy, it’s the staying in love that takes work. Viewers instantly fall in love with onscreen couples tying them together from the moment a show begins. Well viewers sometimes, you’re correct! There have been many scenarios in which co-actors working together did get attach to each other. Sometimes this attachment turns to friendship and later love. A few successful couples have turned their love into a lifetime of togetherness. Let’s take a look at a few of our famous couples.

When we speak about love, how can we forget this eternal couple? Their love story is nothing short of a fairytale. Ram Kapoor and Gautami Gadgil met on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir in the year 2000. They became friends first and then got married three years later on Valentine’s Day. They have two beautiful kids, Aks and Sia. The couple recently celebrated their 10th anniversary.

Our next couple is no mystery to Indian Television lovers. Dubbed the IT couple of the 21st century, this next couple is an icon for lovers everywhere. Hiten Tejwani, the fun-loving, masti master and Gauri Pradhan the go-getter workaholic met on the sets of a Breeze ad shoot. They later were reacquainted on sets of Kutumb. Their chemistry mesmerized Ekta Kapoor to the degree where she paired them up once again for her on-going project, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Today, they are happily married with twins, Nevaan and Katya.


It is good for a wife to support her husband, but it is even better when a husband supports his wife. This is exactly what our next couple teaches us. Sharad Kelkar and Kirti Gaekward, the two met on the sets of Akrosh and later on an episodic appearance of CID Special Bureau. Thereafter they appeared together on Saath Phere. The two share a unique bond. Although Keerti is busy dancing in shows and Sharad busy with reality shows and daily soaps, they give each other the credit of their success. As for their love, it is to this day as alive as it was when they first met.


Considered to be one of the hottest couples on Indian Television this next couple is the true definition of Ram and Sita. First seen together in Ramayan,Gurmeet Choudary and Debina Banerjee are the perfect example of a jhat mangni paat biha. The two fell in love instantly and did not wait long to get married.  While Gurmeet is a hardworking human being, Debina leaves no stone unturned in supporting him. Her presence in every episode of Jhalak Seaon 5 is proof of her hand in her husband’s victory.


This cute couple met on the sets of Kulvadhu and got married shortly after. Although the two were seen as rivals on the show, cupid had other plans for them. These birthday twins tied the knot in the month of December in 2009. Thereafter, they participated in a season of Nach Baliye.

If heaven had to prove its worth, it would create another couple just as good. Aamir and Sanjeeda met far from the sets at a friend’s party. Although the couple rarely works together, they’re known for their onscreen appearances and award winning performances on Nach Baliye. After six years of keeping people guessing, the couple finally tied the knot last year.


With Choti Bahu, Avinash and Rubina were seen as the cute onscreen couple, Dev and Radha. Although their fans saw it coming, their off screen chemistry took a while to warm up. Eventually, the two fell in love and got engaged shortly after. Their work as Dev and Radha won them countless accolades, including the title of best jodi at many award functions.


A year ago, another much awaited couple tied the knot. Karan Singh Grover and Jennifer Winget met on the sets of Kasautii Zindagi Kii when they were paired opposite each other as Sharad and Sneha. The two became friends but later parted ways. Karan married Shraddha Nigam and was later divorced. Their friendship rekindled on the sets of Dill Mill Gayye when Jennifer was roped in to play Riddhima after Sukriti Khandpal’s contract ended. The couple is now happily married.

Next we have Veer and Tapasya, who met on the sets of Uttaran and despite playing the role of an estranged couple on television, the two were truly fond of each other in real life. Like all other couples, initially they denied their relationship but eventually owned up to it. Nandish proposed Rahsmi on the eve of his birthday bash and then again on National Television in a true Bollywood manner. They got married in a secret ceremony in Vijaynagar two years ago. For fans who missed out, watch Dabangg 2’s soulful song Dagabaaz to catch a glimpse of this bride and groom.


Although this next couple was not paired opposite each other, the two were attracted to each other almost instantly. Vivian and Vahbiz met on the sets of Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahani where Vivian played a vampire and Vahbiz played a calm, composed, over protective older sister to Piya, Vivian’s love interest on the show. The couple dated shortly before they were engaged last year. They finally tied the knot on January 7th of this year.
