Why all is not lost for Sony

There is no denying the fact that Sony Entertainment channel has been going through a rough patch lately. The Gross TVT of the channel has been dropping for consecutive weeks now. As per the last weeks ranking Sony is placed at the number six position trailing behind SAB TV and Life OK.

There are news reports suggesting that Sony will be shutting down its serial Chhanchhan in September. This show was launched with a lot of fanfare in March 2013 with Sanaya Irani as the main female protagonist and a newcomer Farhan Khan. However, the pair failed to create any magic on the screen so Khan was soon replaced with Anuj Sachdeva in a bid to revive the rating of this show. This move to seems to have failed to get any results and so the show will be soon coming to an end and Sony will be looking at filling that time slot with a woman oriented show Desh Ki Beti Nandini.

Though things are not looking bright for this channel as of now but all is not lost for Sony. The channel has been garnering decent TRPs for its reality show Indian Idol Junior and this week the channel will be airing its finale episodes. The finale episodes of any reality show always tend to get good rating and it is expected that Sony too might be able to get a strong rating for this weekend, which might help the channel to get into the top 5 spot.

In addition to this, Sony is already airing the promos of KBC, which will be starting from September 6. It is a known fact that KBC and Amitabh magic is a sure shot formula to get TRPs and so Sony should be already looking for good times to come soon.

However, for the channel to be able to sustain itself, it will require some of the shows in its prime time band to start contributing in more significant manner.
